Indianapolis Artist Li Montalvo Explores "The Sacred Pause" in New Geometric Abstract Paintings

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – November, 2025 – Indianapolis-based visual artist Li Montalvo announces the release of a new series of geometric abstraction paintings exploring the concept of "the sacred pause." The works delve into the meditative space between thoughts, where Montalvo believes new realities are constructed through mindfulness. The series is available for viewing at limontalvo.com.

This new work is a direct result of the artist’s background of both Visual Arts and Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University. Through this work, Montalvo invites viewers to step away from the reactionary self in which we usually exist and into a moment of potential. Visually, the work reveals itself into a minimalist language. Through geometric abstraction, the use of a limited palette, and hard-edge lines, Montalvo intends to create a space of reflection that allows for a moment of stillness and a moment to breathe. Their work does not seek to tell a story or represent a subject. Instead, it invites presence —a slowing  down in which the viewers can become more aware of their mental habits and directly encounter the silent geometry of awareness itself.

“This collection is an invitation to take the gift of a pause—to find the silence between the thoughts, where true clarity emerges. The pieces are a snapshot of that internal journey” says Li Montalvo.

This new series is an evolution in Montalvo's practice, deepening the connection between their artistic style and their contemplative exploration of inner worlds. This series follows their ongoing commitment to creating work that encourages viewers to engage with their own consciousness and explore their inherent capacity to choose mindful action.
